This beauty, with no home, now lives on a large piece of acreage! Still
scared of her new surroundings, she did let her new owner pet her
yesterday. A day at a time for our beautiful girl. Soon she will never
look back. :) Wrroooom!

Porsche, a fine name for the sporty beauty she is. This soft girl is good with kids and other dogs and kinda likes cats too.

She is young, in great health and just hasn't yet been lucky enough to find a
permanent home. She is a lovely shepard mix. Located in Tacoma. We can
help with transport for the right home.

I think she is oh-so-beautiful. Loyal, sweet and a good girl.

Precious Companions Need Homes!

This is Alphie. He is beautiful, lonely and sad. A precious boy, very loving, and he needs a home very quickly.

Alphie was fostered and as a dog with great potential us rescuers decided to put him into training camp so he could become a perfect gentleman. He is there, but the trainer has so many dogs, he can't give Alphie the attention he needs. We desperately want a home for him, because he sits alone, depressed, other than when he plays with the other dogs (which he adores doing). We are even looking for a volunteer who is willing to go spend time with our sweet boy, if you love dogs but can't have one of your own. PLEASE pass this along. His time at the camp is almost up and he has literally no nowhere to go but upstairs. He deserves much, much more than that from humans. Touch, love, training, loyalty, and he will return much more in spades. Please let me know if you are interested in adopting, fostering, volunteering your time. Perrin@noa.nintendo.com

This is Hondo (named after a 1954 John Wayne movie). He is a great dog. GOT ADOPTED!!!

He is current on all shots and was neutered at the Prosser Animal Clinic. Hondo is very friendly and very house trained. If he needs to go outside he will use his nose to nudge the door knob. He does very well on a leash and could really use a home with some area or a fenced yard. He is very good with the current owner’s son and they sleep together.

He has to be given up because the present owners and Hondo live next door to two very difficult neighbors. This is going to be a very difficult thing to do for this family as the son really loves this dog. But for the safety of the Hondo and keeping peace among neighbors they need to re-home him ASAP. Someone has already threatened to shoot him.
Please contact Eric at or e-mail at boehmer9@earthlink.net.
Thank you.

My name is Lily and I am a 2 years old German Shepherd & Hound mix. GOT ADOPTED!!!!

I am 50 pounds and I get along great with cats, dogs, kids and people of all ages.
I only need to eat my food alone ~ but otherwise I show no aggression towards people with my food. I can share my treats with other dogs.
I am great on a leash, love going for walks & I really love adventures on car rides.
I am good with commands & I just needs someone who can work with me on consistency and stability.
I am very playful but also mellow and easy going.
I am a really sweet dog- and I just want and need a lot of loving!
I do have some separation anxiety but I am also just reserved.
I have all my shots and am spayed and I am ready to go to my new forever home.
Please email Ginger and lets meet soon!
Adoption Fee: $ 200.00

My name is Abbey and I am a 1 yr old Border Collie Mix.

I have all my shots up to date, am spayed and ready to go to my new home.
I get along with everyone...kids, dogs, cats, chickens, horses & people of all ages. I am being fostered at a farm with lots of room.
I am dog gone smart, housebroken, very sweet and I get very attached to my humans. I listen well, want to please and I would make a great agility dog.
I am healthy, weigh only 30 lbs and will grow to 40 lbs.
I need a good fenced in yard as I need my exercise.
The best home would be someone who can work with me and give me the love, attention and mental stimulation that I need.
Adoption Fee: $ 200.00

This is Kahlua and she wants to hang out by your side.

She needs a home of her own. She is six years young and full of pep. She is great with
other dogs, is very loving and beautiful. She is mid-sized at about 40+ lbs.

Kahlua was saved by one of our amazing fosters by only one day before
she was scheduled to be euthanized. Nothing wrong with her at all, just
overcrowded shelter.

She would love to go with you anywhere or if left home will be fine
once she knows you love her and she is yours. She will bark a bit, but
over time that can subside.

Please pass her story along. She is very deserving of a loving
permanent home. Email me or Sara Schwarz at visionsdog@yahoo.com. She
and I will stay in close touch on Kahlua and help to answer any
inquiries. Kahlua currently is living in Tacoma.

Hunter and Fame are two gorgeous pure-bred lab brothers, are 4 yrs old and looking for a home.
YEAH<>

Their owner has become too ill to care for them. They are wonderful dogs. The owner's grandchildren can crawl all over them and like the typical lab, they LOVE every minute of it.
Both are neutered, up to date on their shots, housebroken and very well behaved. The owner would love to keep the boys together if possible as they are best friends. Their owner has terminal cancer and is heartbroken that he has to give them up but would like to find a home for them while he's still able. Please contact Shannon Leighton by email at shannonleighton@comcast.net if you know of anyone that would be interested. Thank you.

Mass Recall of dog and cat food after pets die

 Recall of wet pet food made by Menu Foods for Wal-Mart, Kroger, PetsMart, others
 Undisclosed number of cats and dogs suffered vomiting, kidney failure; 10 died
 Recall affects specific sizes of Iams and Eukanuba brands of dog, cat food
 See lists of recalled brands at bottom of story
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Pet owners were worried Saturday that the pet food in their cupboards could be deadly after millions of containers of dog and cat food sold at major retailers across North America were recalled.

Menu Foods -- a major manufacturer of dog and cat food sold under Wal-Mart, Safeway, Kroger and other store brands -- recalled 60 million containers of wet pet food Friday after reports of kidney failure and deaths.

An unknown number of cats and dogs suffered kidney failure and about 10 died after eating the affected pet food, the company said in announcing the North American recall.

Product testing has not revealed a link explaining the reported cases of illness and death, the company said.

"At this juncture, we're not 100 percent sure what's happened," said Paul Henderson, the company's president and chief executive officer.

However, the recalled products were made using wheat gluten purchased from a new supplier, since dropped for another source, spokeswoman Sarah Tuite said. Wheat gluten is a source of protein.
'Cuts and gravy' food sold in cans, pouches recalled
The recall covers the company's "cuts and gravy" style food, which consists of chunks of meat in gravy, sold in cans and small foil pouches between December 3 and March 6 throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The pet food was sold by stores operated by the Kroger Co., Safeway Inc., Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and PetSmart Inc., among others, Henderson said.

Menu Foods said it makes pet foods for 17 of the top 20 North American retailers. It is also a contract manufacturer for the top branded pet food companies, including Procter & Gamble Co.

Procter & Gamble announced Friday the recall of specific 3 oz., 5.5 oz., 6 oz. and 13.2 oz. canned and 3 oz. and 5.3 oz. foil pouch cat and dog wet food products made by Menu Foods but sold under the Iams and Eukanuba brands. The recalled products bear the code dates of 6339 through 7073 followed by the plant code 4197, P&G said.

Menu Foods' three U.S. and one Canadian factory produce more than 1 billion containers of wet pet food a year. The recall covers pet food made at company plants in Emporia, Kansas, and Pennsauken, New Jersey, Henderson said.

Henderson said the company received an undisclosed number of owner complaints of vomiting and kidney failure in dogs and cats after they had been fed its products. It has tested its products but not found a cause for the sickness.

"To date, the tests have not indicated any problems with the product," Henderson said.
FDA also working to target brands
The company alerted the Food and Drug Administration, which already has inspectors in one of the two plants, Henderson said. The FDA was working to nail down brand names covered by the recall, agency spokesman Mike Herndon said.

Menu Foods is majority-owned by the Menu Foods Income Fund, based in Ontario, Canada.

Henderson said the recall would cost the company the Canadian equivalent of $26 million to $34 million.

Below are lists of specific brands recalled by Menu Foods, in addition to Procter & Gamble's recall of certain Iams and Eukanuba products. Menu Brands lists the brands on its Web site, www.menufoods.com, and advises consumers to call 1-866-895-2708 for more information.

Another Plea For Pablo!!!

We are in urgent need for a new home for Pablo,

the attached beautiful 10 month-old male. He is very loving, and desperate for a place of his
own. He seems to fare better with female dogs and ideally would do well with someone who is home somewhat to ensure he gets exercise. He would love nothing more than getting out a bit as he grows and so he can burn off some energy. His current situation does not offer the above, and
sadly, it is not working out.

The situation is desperate, even for a good foster. We do not want him
returned to the shelter where we pulled him from death row. We have no
extra fosters right now. Ideal would be a permanent home. We are very
open to the right foster situation.

Please let me know if you are interested or able to help this sweet boy

Seattle Dog Show

Dogs, dogs, dogs. Dogs every were. It was a very busy place at the Quest Field Event Center.

We were at the end that had the field trials.

They started with the little guys and worked up to the largest. Some of the participants were just as fast and enthusiastic as could be and some were just going thru the motions.

We had some new friends stop by and they were way cool.

Shannon & Jessie and Stephanie & Cash, German Wired Haired Pointers. (Mneek Treats Mmm...woof!)

Ellie and Briard- good sense of humor and loves to shop.

Little girl Bulldog Ruthy at 6 months and such a sweetheart.

At 8 years young, Pimba, an Aussie Shepard.

French Bulldogs and owners, Piper & Sharon and Bigfoot & Darla.

English Pointer, Stewart with Trulie- very mellow but such a chatterbox when competing in the field trials.

The Brandy Lab with Hedgehog is Ingrid, who also competed.

Then there was Elvis, a best of breed over 5 specials Bulldog. Look at that face. One of the judges said after you weigh all the other factors, it comes down to the face. (Oh yeah, I am the KING!)

Dodge Quixote Scam, a Border Collie. (Gimme Gimme Gimme UneekTreats!)

Afaganhounds, Canadian & American Champions, Polo the Aviator aka Ace and Gwichin Peyton Touchdown called Peyton for short. Winners in their category!

Check us out! How cool!

We worked with Alyssa Michaud at doggonerunning.com,- see Alyssa running. See Alyssa running with your dog.

Anti Tether Law, It's In CA, Bring It To WA

Hi Ginger,
I'm in Olympia working on legislation for the 2006-2007 session and it's monopolizing most of my time.

We've also started our work for next session and it includes an anti-tether bill!! Senator McAuliffe's office and I will be finalizing the bill language in the coming days and we'll be ready to hit the ground running next year when the session opens. We'll certainly be calling on you and your group to help get the bill through when the time comes. Next year is a short session so we'll have to work hard to keep it alive.

Stay tuned!
Ritamo

ANIMAL LAW COALITION
California Anti-Tethering Bill Becomes Law
September 27, 2006 : 12:00 AM
Update September 27, 2006 California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed the anti-tethering bill. SB 1578 is finally law.

The new law will limit the circumstances under which Californians can tether or chain dogs. With few exceptions, "No person shall tether, fasten, chain, tie, or restrain a dog, or cause a dog to be tethered, fastened, chained, tied, or restrained, to a dog house, tree, fence, or any other stationary object."

Under the law a person may be issued a warning or charged with an infraction or misdemeanor. An infraction is punishable by a $250 fine. A misdemeanor is punishable by a fine up to $1000 or 6 months in jail or both.

The law signals a recognition by Californians and others around the country that tethering or chaining dogs is cruel and inhumane and fosters aggression.

Girls Night Out

It was late at night and as I slipped in to Jazzbones in Tacoma and whispered to the doorman, "The Art Show?"

"Up the stairs."

Up the creaky stairs I went, entering into Dez's latest success. Great new works on the walls and new shoes on the feet.

She was in her element.

All the glitterati was there, to see and to be seen. And seen they did.

All new paintings of friends, taken from photos by Willow at a girls nite out.

A new style emerging by Dez and as you can see by the pictures, very successful. Trademark grommets and mirrors adding to the glitter and glam.

What was saw was talent breaking out into a new direction.

More write ups for Dez in the Weekly Volcano

Where will she go from here. I can't wait until her next showing and see! Ciao

Legislative Action Needed! Pasado's Safe Haven Animal Abandonment Bill SB5227 Needs Your Help!

The animal abandonment bill (that would increase the penalty from 90 days max jail time and $1,000 fine to one year max jail time and $5,000 fine - plus remove economic distress as an affirmative defense) is stuck in the Senate Rules committee right now. It may have been pulled to the floor for a vote late last night but I can't confirm.

We have only days left to get it out and on to the floor for a vote. I'd appreciate it if you could post information on the blog to get WA state folks to email the Rules Committee member that can get it pulled to the floor. We need to get it out of the Senate so it can be heard in the House of Representatives.

The bill is http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=5227&year=2007

Once it's out of the Senate, we have two weeks to get it heard in the House Judiciary Committee. Then it goes through the same Rules Committee process in the House and to the floor for a vote.

Thanks to Rita Morgan, National Coordinator, Pasado's Safe Haven for her efforts on this bill. Please see below for a draft to copy and paste with links to email and numbers to call!

PLEASE HELP MAKE ANIMAL ABANDONMENT A SERIOUS CRIME IN WASHINGTON STATE!

Write to Senator Rosemary McAuliffe:

Senator Rosemary McAuliffe, a long time supporter of animal welfare bills, has the ability to move SB5227 http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=5227&year=2007 out of a committee where it has been "stuck" and on to the Senate floor. (See below for a summary of the bill.)

We need Senator McAuliffe, alone, to make this happen. Why? The other senators have their agendas - their own bills to try and get to the Senate floor.

Senator McAuliffe needs to hear from as many people as possible AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so she knows how important this bill is to those of us who care for and fight for the forgotten and neglected animals abandoned by their humans.

Why Now?

The clock is ticking! We are on borrowed time now and if she doesn't do this soon, the bill could die in the Rules Committee, where most bills die!

PLEASE E-MAIL her RIGHT NOW and simply say: mcauliffe.rosemary@leg.wa.gov (put in your own words, please)
I understand Pasado's Safe Haven's animal abandonment bill SB 5227 needs your help. Please "pull" the bill out of the Rules Committee for a floor vote.

And thank you for working on a "dog on chains" law (NOTE: this is a bill Pasado's will be lobbying for her next session, with your help of course!)
Your name AND home address
cc: Senator Rodney Tom, the prime sponsor of SB5227: tom.rodney@leg.wa.gov

For those of you who live in Senator McAuliffe's district (find out if you live in her district here http://apps.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/Default.aspx, in addition to emailing, please CALL the 1-800 Legislative Hotline 800.562.6000 and leave a message for her (you will NOT get to talk to her.)

Why should you e-mail AND call? It's very likely she will get only one message. Legislators are very busy. They need to be contacted in as many ways as possible.

Those of you in the 1st district have a special part to play because you are a constituent and have a powerful voice! It's VITAL you do this - and get ANYONE in your household or in District 1 to do this (of legal age).

Pasado's is hoping this will be our fourth animal cruelty bill made into law in as many years. YOU are needed to make this happen!!!
(If you don't know if a co-worker, friend, or family member lives in District 1, type their home address here: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/Default.aspx

Pablo - Has A Home! What about Baby and Sophia!

Labrador Retriever,Anatolian Shepherd Mix is 45 - 50 lbs and sweet!
She still needs a home with a fenced yard. She will easily become your best friend.
ffcats@gmail.com or call 206. 310.2352

Or Sophia a Border Collie Mix
Sophia is gentle, sweet and affectionate with humans and, after a proper introduction, dogs. She is an extremely mellow & happy boarder collie mix, constantly wagging her tail. She was pulled from a Los Angeles shelter, along with her sister where their owner had dumped them because they were moving. The sisters flew up to the northwest to live on a ten-acre bed & breakfast on Bainbridge Island. Unfortunately, the sisters started fighting for the owner’s affection. Sophia is now in a foster home until she can find a loving home as an only dog. Sophia is house broken, spayed, vaccinated, between 4-5 yrs. old. She is an indoor dog, but also loves the outdoors and would prefer to have access to a fenced yard. As much as Sophia likes walks she LOVES care rides. Contact comm-292156600@craigslist.org

Free to a GOOD home, Two Border Collie/Terrier mix
Two Brothers that are 8 months old, good natured, very social, loveable, and great with kids. Would like to have them adopted together. They've had their shots and have been neutered, also have microchips implanted. Will make great pets to someone with lots of room for them to run. They love to play and keep themselves amused, most of the time.
My kids are heart broken, but I'm being transferred and can't take them with us. Please get back to me if you're interested. I don't want to take them back to the pound.

Pablo, sweet, only 10 months old, is now in the loving arms of his new

home along with his new sidekick, Duke, the cocker spaniel. Pablo was
on death row, and we pulled him just in time. Our thanks to Pablo's new
mom - we searched long and hard for her - and she is exactly what this
sweet boy hungers for! Pablo, enjoy your life now! You deserve it!

This is Pablo. In his short life, he has been bounced around from place
to place and really seeks a good home of his own. We also are looking
for a good foster for him. Is your loving home his place? We are in
urgent mode.

Pablo is 10 months old, recently neutered, about 45 lbs. and stunning.
He is happy, sweet, and will eat the dog food right out of her hand with
a soft mouth. He loves to cuddle, loves to play, loves to run. He also
adores other dogs.

Pablo was introduced to kids and it was his first. It scared him so for
now he is best in a home without young kids. Older would be fine.

Please email me or Karla at FreyasLair@comcast.net. Urgent.

Another Frankie Update

To All Those Who Helped And Supported Frankie’s Rescue:

I visited Frankie (and the others) this past week-end at John’s training boot camp. Frankie is still silly and clumsy but clearly happy and loves people. He has someone who is VERY interested in him and kept calling John to remind him to put her on the list to adopt him. Well, I’m doing a home check tomorrow so cross your fingers. She fell in love with him immediately and has had experience with large dogs that are more heart than discipline. That’s our Frankie.

Below are some photos from this week-end with his trainer. He is a handful as we witnessed but not in a negative way. The potential owner has visited him a few times and knows his shortcomings and is very excited about adopting him. I’ve spoken to her a few times and she sounds great. Frankie will never be a guard dog or search and rescue type. However, if someone just wants a companion to play with or sit by the fire with, he’s the one. And he’s perfect that way.
I hope my next e-mail will be to say he’s found a loving, forever home.

MEET FRANKIE- A SWEET GOOBER

CHECK OUT THAT BIG HEAD!

NOT THE BEST OR BRIGHTEST STUDENT BUT LOVABLE AND SWEET
JOHN SAYS “YOU WILL BEHAVE” FRANKIE SAYS “I WILL NOT!”

BUT IN THE END THEY BOTH COMPROMISE ALTHOUGH I THINK FRANKIE GOT THE BEST OF JOHN ON THIS DEAL. WHO’S TRAINING WHO?

Tiny Dashound Needs Help

Baby is currently in need of medical help due to stones and a growing mass.
Her family is military and cannot afford to finance the medical help she needs.
They have come from California and cannot even afford to get housing that will
permit them to have their cats and the one dog. Currently Baby is at the Pets
Hotel at Pets Mart in Tukwilla waiting for her parents to get housing. What
is needed is a referral for financial help for her needed surgery.

Does anyone know of any agency who helps families who cannot afford medical emergencies for their pets? ALSO we are setting up a fund for Baby's medical bills at
Banfield Hospital in Tukwilla, Petsmart. If you would like to donate even
a dollar PLEASE send in your contribution to Banfield Pet Hospital at 17585 Southcenter Parkway, Tukwilla, Wa. Their phone is 206-575-2758. The dog's
name is BABY PETERSON and I know that the family needs help to keep Baby alive.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION.
